And of course I said YES!

And of course I said YES!

I turned 36 years young on Saturday, 12th October 2013.

The night before some friends of mine invited my boyfriend B and our (collective) kids over for a birthday dinner. We had a great time, they had my fave there – potato curry with roti and wine of course. We were sitting around the table on the patio having wine and after dinner chat, when two of my friends blindfolded me! According to them I was getting the other part of my birthday present. Oh yippee!

Just as I was getting a bit anxious not being able to see anything, I heard Mirrors by Justin Timberlake start playing and they took the blindfold off… I saw something I’ll never forget as long as I live! There in front of me on a little wall were standing my sons Matthew and Joshua, B’s daughter KA and of course B himself… each one of them holding a printed pink, white and black sign, each with a word on it saying… “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”. B was holding the “ME” one.

Shocked! Overwhelmed! And of course YES!! Words cannot describe how I felt… Never had I dreamed that B would propose to me on my birthday… nor in such a special incredible way. I get goosebumps every time I think of it. He put the ring on my finger and I was in tears. Then the bubbly flowed.

I am so in love with you B that simple mere words could not describe what I feel for you. I’ve known for a very long time that I wanted to spend my life with you and to know that you feel the same way makes me feel as though I’m the luckiest woman alive. Thank you for being such a huge part of my boys lives and for accepting and loving us all for who we are. I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you and grow with you. xxx

A Wish And A Dream

A Wish And A Dream

The approach of your own birthday means so many different things to each individual. Children are excited and bright-eyed, they can’t wait! Teenagers are excited for the partying. Well in my 20’s I was excited for the partying too, that didn’t stop. In my 30’s I’ve never looked forward to it anymore.

I have always this idea that birthdays should be special. The birthday person should be spoilt and made to feel special. I’m not talking huge expensive material gifts. I mean, breakfast in bed, a dinner that your other half made for you. Or being taken out for dinner. Maybe some flowers (even if stolen from the neighbours verge). I’m always aware of this idea and I go out of my way to make sure that my sons always feel special on their birthday.

For the past good few years, my birthday has been this big anti-climax. I get excited… for that special birthday feeling you get inside… then I realise that it’s not that big a deal to anyone else. And wow… what a lonely horrible feeling.

Two years back, for my birthday, I baked a cake with my sons. We iced it (blue) and put sprinkles on (dinosaurs) and we enjoyed it. I would have preferred a cake more to my specifics décor wise, but the boys were so excited and I wanted them to enjoy themselves. I’ll always remember memories like that.

My birthday wish for this year, Wednesday 12 October 2011, is to have someone special take me to the beach just before sunset … bring a blanket to sit on… a bottle (or 2) of good wine… and something nice to snack on. If it gets chilly, move on to a nice coffee shop and have a big mug of something warm to drink. I long to feel loved, appreciated and respected. Though hope is frail… it’s hard to kill.

In just under a month’s time

In just under a month’s time

My big boy, Matthew, will turn 7 years old. He is SO excited and of course so am I. 😀

Matthew won’t be having a birthday party this year due to financial constraints, but he has given me a wishlist of what he’d like to receive as a gifts/s. The list goes as follows:-

1. Star Wars Lego (Mommy likes this idea too)
2. A new Beyblade (He already has Dark Bull)
3. A Scooter (the push/ride-on one – nice to get a bit of outside play, and a bike is too expensive)
4. A dvd (he loves movies)
5. A PS2 game (any kids one)
6. A cricket set (I’m trying to teach them how to play cricket)
7. Gogo’s (The latest craze, I even love them)
8. Disney Beado’s – Either Toy Story or Cars (This looks super cute, I also wanna play!)
9. Ben 10 Quickfire game (I think the boys would enjoy this)
10. Bakugan Bakusketcher (hmmm… Joshie would love this more I’m sure, he’s always playing with Matt’s old one that doesn’t work so well anymore)

I’m listing this all here for when Mathew is older, then he can see what he was into when he turned 7 years old. 🙂

So, I obviously can’t get it all, perhaps one or two, depending on the pricing. But watch this space to see what he gets and for birthday photies.

I’ve decided that I’ll take the boys to the beach for Matthew’s birthday, with a picnic. I’ll bake a cake for him too… still deciding on a Gogo’s cake or How To Train Your Dragon cake. I love my boys’ birthdays! I’ll always be a kid at heart, that’s okay with me. 🙂

Happy happy 6th birthday to my son, Matthew!

Happy happy 6th birthday to my son, Matthew!

For your birthday on Friday, 23 April 2010:

To my dearest darling Matthew,

I loved you from the moment I found out that you were growing inside me. When you were born, that love amplified into a love that I never knew I could ever feel. You are my everything and I live each day for you and Joshua. I’ve grown so much with you, seeing the world through your eyes and experiencing new things all over again. Your excitement fuels mine and seeing your eyes sparkle when you smile makes my heart swell in my chest, sometimes feeling as though it’s so big with pride and love for you that it’ll burst right out. Matthew, everything about you is perfect in my eyes and I will always love you. Enjoy your special day my monkey-boy, Mommy loves you so so much. xxx
