Tickles and Twinkles

Tickles and Twinkles

I am absolutely blessed and honoured to have been given the gift of motherhood. I gave birth to two incredibly beautiful little boys, Matthew and Joshua, who leave me speechless when I so much as look into their big blue eyes while they tell me they love me. No love can compare to this.

After work last night I lay on the bed and watched cartoons with Matthew and Joshua, while we chatted about the day. I love tickling Matthew, he’s *so* ticklish (just like his mom… sssshhhh!) and Joshua is too, but not as much… he just lies there giggling and wiggling. Matthew actually runs for the hills. I was enjoying having the upper hand when the two of them ganged up together and ambushed me! They tickled and tickled and tickled me so much. My whole body was one huge goosebump! I was screaming and wriggling and the boys though it was HUGE fun! I was not enjoying it, but they were, so I played along. Eventually I had to wave the white flag. Wowee… I still have goosies!

A few minutes later it was bedtime and I took Matthew to bed whilst granny took Joshua to bed. Now, when Matthew was a baby I always used to sing him to sleep… and I can’t sing to save my life, but for some reason, this cute little cherub loved it and I continued to sing him to sleep as he got older. He is turning 7 in April and last night he asked me to sing him to sleep. Whilst laying there thinking of what to sing, he asked for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Just as I was about to sing, he started singing a version that I’ve never heard before. It was so incredibly cute! I recorded him singing it, he sounds rather sleepy though, but listen closely.

I love listening to his cute little voice… aww! After I sang a few songs for him, he drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face, and asking in a little voice “hug me please Mommy”. 😀 My heart is full (As Mozzer sings).

Sing your life, South Africans

Sing your life, South Africans

South Africa became a democracy in 1994. I was in Standard 9, aged 16 years old. I couldn’t vote yet as I was not 18 years old at the time, but it didn’t phase me much as I was just enjoying the change that our country was experiencing. In my matric year (1995) we learnt about apartheid in our History classes, something that I am immensely proud of, as years of history matriculants before me didn’t get a chance to learn that.

One thing however that I missed out on being taught at school, was the new South African anthem, Nkosi Sikilele. We were still singing Die Stem when I left matric in 1995, I think they started learning the new anthem the year after that, or in 1997. So here I sit, 16 years down the line from South Africa becoming a democracy, and I STILL do not know how to sing the whole of our new South African anthem… shocking!

What’s even more shocking, is that my 6 year old son can sing the entire anthem from beginning to end. On Freedom day, 27 April 2010, Matthew stood proudly swinging his South African flag and sang the anthem in our living room. We all stood and listened and watched with huge proud grins on our faces. So here is the South African national anthem and I am going to learn it, because as a citizen of your country you should know your national anthem. It should be imprinted on your brain like your shoe size, bra size or whatever size you are.

The anthem comprises of 5 of the official languages:

(Xhosa) Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrika Maluphakanyisw’ uphondo lwayo,

(Zulu) Yizwa imithandazo yethu, Nkosi sikelela, thina lusapho lwayo.

(English) Sounds the call to come together, And united we shall stand, Let us live and strive for freedom, In South Africa our land.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is our national anthem. *proud grin*

Happy birthday to my big brother!

Happy birthday to my big brother!

Big Boet himself!
Today my big brother, Ryan, turns 37 years young and I just want to wish him the bestest day and year ever because he deserves all the best and more that life has to offer!

“I’m wishing you another year
Of laughter, joy and fun,
Surprises, love and happiness,
And when your birthday’s done,
I hope you feel deep in your heart,
As your birthdays come and go,
How very much you mean to me,
More than you can know.”

Love you lots Ryan. xxxxxxx

Want Want Must Have!

Want Want Must Have!

*insert heavy darth breathing here*
I saw the cutest bear at the Build-A-Bear Workshop the other day. It was in the window staring right at me… a Darth Vadar Build-A-Bear!

Now, I’ve always wanted my very own Build-A-Bear… a pretty pink one with tons of frills and tulle… just to rebel against the boy stuff I am constantly buying for my 2 boys. But then I laid my eyes on ‘ol Darth-boytjie here and I’m smitten.

I took Matthew and Joshua a while back to get their own Build-A-Bear’s done, we all had so much fun. Matthew decided on a Fireman bear and Joshua wanted a Safari bear. We had a good time building our bear and dressing it. The boys wanted undies and shoes for their bears too but I could see the dollar bills flying out the window already so I had to put my paw down somewhere. Oh and they each loaded a sound into their bears’ paw – a huge deep ROAWRRRR! They’re too adorable! (The bears and my boys that is).

I hope they have some heavy breathing sounds for my Darth bear…

The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries

So the first episode of TVD aired on SA television on 1 February. I have been waiting for months for it to air so you can imagine how friggin excited I was on Monday night when it started!

I read the books a year ago and loved loved loved them. Seeing the first episode, I can honestly say that I am so impressed. They have stuck to the story so well! I also think they chose the actors very well. Paul Wesley is great as Stefan Salvatore, they chose him well, as did they chose his brother Damon well. Elena is cast very well too, they all are.

TVD airs every Monday at 8:30pm here by us, so I absolutely cannot wait to see the next episode. Any other TVD fans out there? 🙂

A new job

A new job

After 3 months of not having a job, I finally got one! I started on 1 February as an Admin Clerk. The hours are longer and the money is far less than I was earning previously, but it’s a job and I really needed one.

So far all has been fine, I am learning plenty new things, however I have developed a harsh tummy bug and it’s really flattening me. Last night I got home from work, vomitted and passed out on the bed. And that was me for the night… not good! This morning I am eating Marie biscuits and drinking Powerade, hopefully it works. I hate feeling this way.

On the other hand, the boys seemed to have settled in well at school. Matthew is in Grade R and Joshua is in Grade 000 (blue group). They are both at the same school, which is the best school in our suburb. It costs a fortune to send them there but I’d rather know that my kids are happy and well cared for.

Well that’s enough babble for now, I’m going to see what all this paper is on my desk. xx

Surprise!

Surprise!

Yes … I am still around believe it or not. Well the past few months have been extremely trying and stressful and I haven’t wanted to blog… perhaps just “block”. LOL! Well I’m back and will hopefully get a chance to blog again soon. I just don’t have access to a pc, just the internet from my shitty little mobile phone. Will keep in touch, take care world. xx

My baby turns 3!

My baby turns 3!

Yes, it’s Joshua’s birthday on Saturday 24 October 2009. I remember clearly the day he was born at Parklands Hospital here in Durban at 13:20 by c-section. He let out the most gorgeous cry when he was born and that was me finished, sobbing my heart out. Joshua is a lovely gorgeous little boy, half of my heart walks in him, the other half in Matthew. Here are a few pics.

Happy birthday to me!

Happy birthday to me!

I turned 32 on Monday, 12 October. It wasn’t a good birthday personally, but I did my best to make a bit of a celebration with Matthew and Joshua. They are absolute stars. The entire weekend before they wrapped themselves up in blankets and duvets repeatedly for me to unwrap “my gifts”. We baked a cake and I let the boys blow the candles. I wasn’t allowed a pink cake, and the boys insisted I put dinosaur sprinkles on. So much for my wish of a Twilight cake. 😉
